Healthcare Providers

Challenges

Physical and psychological exhaustion due to long work hours, management of clinical cases of extreme urgency, or co-occurring medical and psychosocial complexities, more often than not affect students in training and seasoned healthcare providers across specialties. Oftentimes, it is not possible to work through a more difficult encounter with patients, such as a sudden change in prognosis, managing communication with family members involved in the care of patients, or challenges with interpersonal relationships with colleagues and institutional hierarchy.

Approach

This way, I seek to offer a space for the patient, if they choose, to regain the autonomy of their own body and mind, so to be able to manage, as needed, stress responses related to their professional practice, such as depressive symptoms, anxiety or possible burnout.

Moreover, I dedicate to accompanying them on building a safe space to engage in reflections on the healthcare system they are a part of, and aspects of their practice they consider most challenging, such as vicarious trauma or grief. I also encourage patients to resignify their professional choice as one of their many identities in a way that would allow for them to find good balance between their professional and personal lives.
